Christianity and the World
My friend Nate recently pointed out this article to me. It seems to make some good points. Do you readers have any comments?

Ian,
I think there is a huge difference between not having a TV (which has some good benifits w/o considering the content - improved reading, improved imagination, physical fitness, etc) - and creating a seperate christian TV network or networks. I also think there is a degree of discernment that should differentiate between children and adults. I know adults who only listen to "christian" music, only read "christian" books, only watch "christian" tv shows (well that and fox news), etc.
When something like Darfur happens they have never heard about it, because they willing chose not to hear any bad news.
I would rather my children know about the bad things in this world and learn at an early age to do something about to help.
That does not mean I would want my 10 year old to watch sex and the city ;). As always I think we agree far more then we disagree.
Nate
We probably do agree more than disagree. I want to be careful what my kids are 'fed' while they're young, but while I hadn't thought about Darfur and the like, I do like the idea of raising them to be aware of what's really going on.
Now that I'm an adult, the problem becomes more complicated; I'm not sure I can fit a good explanation into this comment. I want to think upon things that are pure, and I don't want to needlessly paddle about in dirty water, but I think there are many occasions that make it appropriate to look at things that are impure; sometimes to evaluate them, sometimes to learn about or enjoy other things while trying to keep the impurity from sinking in. I think there's a fair amount of balancing involved. I don't think I've finished figuring this one out.
I think the writer was spot on. So much so that I think I will also start promoting the separation of church and hate! The biggest and most important point is that Christians have lost hold of the grace they need themselves when they start condemning others.
But the "click here to see your thoughts" link ...isn't one.
What browser did you try it in? It works for me in Safari and Firefox. It's a JavaScripty, not a link to another page.
But apparently the JavaScripty is cleaned out when you show the post in the comment page. It works when you just look at the post on its own page, though...
